Supporting the ISCE...

Plymouth Services for Children and Young People are pleased to be able to support ETE and the ISCE, including their Polar Fun Days, as these support and encourage young people to engage with learning in an innovative and exciting environment, close to the heart of their own communities. Learning of this nature also contributes to the raising of aspiration and building of confidence.

We will continue to support ETE/ISCE throughout the next school year and beyond as we believe it makes a positive difference to the lives of our young people.

Dartmoor Challenge

The Telegraph competition-shortlisted candidates for the last place in the ISCE2012 sledging party will be tested in a Dartmoor challenge in the first weekend of July. Dartmoor is famed for its tors or outcrops of bedrock and is routinely used for military manoeuvres and training exercises.

Few details of this challenge have been released, in keeping with the hoary old expedition adage that ‘anything can happen’. However, candidates have been given their drop-off coordinates and a packing list that includes survival bags and actively excludes cotton clothing, so a safe assumption is that the test will be navigation-based and conducive to sweating. Specialised equipment will be supplied by the Royal Navy.

Reports and pictures of the challenge will be posted soon after.
