Supporting the ISCE...

Antony and the ISCE team are fully committed to getting Scott, the Antarctic and polar science into the classroom, this year and the next, and their aim is to build one of the largest ever on-line and interactive education platforms.

Official Status

The ISCE has received official British Government recognition of its endeavours.

In a letter from Colin Roberts, Director of the Overseas Territories Directorate, he states:

"The Minister supports this expedition not only because of its unique nature but also in view of the contribution it will make towards raising awareness of and commemorating the remarkable expedition to the South Pole by Captain Scott and his party in 1911/12. This view was reaffirmed by the Prime Minister in his response to Oliver Colvile of 22 June 2011 when he made clear that the UK is rightly proud of its Antarctic heritage and highlighted that it is important to recognise the enduring legacy of Captain Scott’s contribution to polar exploration and science and the inspiration that provides.

Given its exceptional nature, the Minister has agreed the Government’s endorsement of the ISCE expedition, and official recognition of the expedition’s important contribution to our overall commemoration of the significant and heroic endeavours of Captain Scott."

This now means that both the Spirit of Scott Expeditions, the BSAE and the ISCE have received government endorsement of their efforts. They are the only centenary expeditions to be given this rare distinction.
