The plan to commemorate Scott's centenary and the death of the Polar Party is a noble and fitting tribute. I support the efforts of the team at ISCE and wish them all the very best for their plans in Antarctica in 2012.

The ISCE candidates returned late last night from their Arctic adventure in northern Norway. The polar training selection event was lead by ISCE expedition leader Antony Jinman, renowned polar explorer Geoff Somers and local guide and Arctic adventurer Per-Thore Hansen.

The week began with a series of workshops on the equipment and skills required to participate in a polar expedition, as well as the hazards involved. This was followed by a seven day training expedition where the candidates were able to train by pulling tyres and pulks (on foot and on ski); as well as practice their polar camp skills.
Each day the candidates wrote a blog on the days’ events - Arctic Ice Blog. Their activities have also been reported in the Daily Telegraph.

The final candidate for the competition will be selected shortly.
